I'm Lilly Kubit.
I was born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh Pa. named Mt. Lebanon. I'm studying to become a photojournalist at Chatham University.
I was attracted to photography from a young age. I would stare in wonder at the pictures in my dad's copies of National Geographic Magazine every time he got a new issue. When I was as young as five or six, these images subconsciously inspired me to become a photographer myself.
Throughout middle school I would always use my iPhone and my mom's Nikon DSLR to capture the world around me. My parents saw how captivated I was by photography, and being the amazing and supportive parents they are, they bought me my own DSLR camera (a Nikon D3400) on Christmas Day, 2016.
From that day on, I've taught myself how to become a successful photographer with the help of the internet, a friend in the field of photography and an apprenticeship in spring 2019.
Now I am in school studying what I love. I have made four photography series for the Chatham newspaper the Communiqué, along with a few one-off photo stories.
I was recently given opportunities to work in newsrooms around Pittsburgh. I worked for Trib Total Media during summer 2022, and during fall 2022 I worked at PublicSource.
So far, I have used this artform to create some projects that are listed below. While I love shooting all forms of photography, I specialize in portrait and self-portrait photography.
